• The ball may be moved within one club length, remaining in the same course condition.

MGA Team Match Play

Year-Long 2024

 

2 person team match play which run throughout the season. Teams will be set up in a bracket format, you schedule your own times and dates (prior to the scheduled day), play off of the lowest handicapper in the fourball. Sign-up with your partner. See below for more details.

 

Format:      2 person Team Match Play – 32 Team Bracket

                             Sign-up Deadline – February 26th

         

Matches must be started prior to 1:00pm on the scheduled play date.

Failure to do so will result in disqualification of the team that does not show. If both teams cannot schedule a time and date, prior to the start of the “play by date”, then the MGA will select a winner by coin toss.

         

Match play by Dates:    April 2, May 13, July 1, August 13, and October 1

 

Handicap:  Play at 100% off of the lowest handicap player in the group.

Format:      Individual Match Play – Each match is played over 18 holes.

                     Flights of 8. Flighted by player’s index.

                             Round 1 – Saturday 16^{th –} Tee times starting at 9:00am

                             Semi-Finals – Sunday 17^{th -} Tee times starting at 9:00am

                             Finals – Saturday 23^th – Tee times starting at 10:00am

 Handicap: All flights except for the Last Flight will play Gross.

                   NET flight plays the difference off low player’s handicap at 100%.

Format:      Two-man team event. Gross and Net Scoring. Both players tee off on each hole. Each player hits his partner's tee shot, then the team selects the best second shot. Then the player that did not hit the selected second shot plays the third shot, and the players alternate until holed out. The lowest net team score is the winner.

 

Handicap: Per USGA Handicap Manual, the team handicap is the total of 60% of the A players course handicap plus 40% of the B players course handicap.

Annual Wood Cup.

Deerwood Club and Kingwood Country Club will compete in a Ryder Cup format.

 

A team of 24 players from each club will represent their respective clubs.  We will play 27 holes; 9 holes of Fourball, 9 holes of Foursomes and 9 holes of singles matches.

 

We will conduct a qualifier in conjunction with the yearlong points list. Each club will host qualifiers, there will be 8 qualifiers from each club, 4 gross and 4 net. The format for the qualifier events will be an individual Stapleford points game. Deerwood’s qualifier is scheduled for August 24th. Also, four exempt spots will include the current Club Champion, Senior Club Champion, Match Play Champion, and the Golf Chairman/President.

 

All members that have Deerwood golf privileges will only be eligible to compete for the Deerwood team.  Breakdown of points from the events held at Kingwood and Deerwood include 5 points for participation plus 24 points for finishing 1st, 21 for 2nd, 18 for 3rd, 15 for 4th, 12 for 5th and 9 for 6th in each of the monthly men’s events.

 

We will host a Wood Cup Dinner at Deerwood on Friday night, before the Matches begin. Each team member will receive a uniform and gifts for the competition. We are planning on seeing everyone on Friday night as the Team Captains select the players for their respective matches. More details to follow.

 

Here’s a chance to bring home the Wood Cup Trophy and have

bragging rights for the year!

 

The Trophy will be displayed in the winning team’s Clubhouse for the year.

Format:      Individual elimination to determine Year-End Point List winners - Win, Place and Show. The remaining 8 players will play hole 15, 4 will play hole 16, 3 will play hole 17 and the final 2 will play hole 18.

Handicap:  100% - Strokes given as they apply on the scorecard.

Para-mutual:       Optional - Para-mutual wagering available for the shoot-Out.

 

USGA rules apply except as modified by local rules.

Local Rules:

Out of Bounds:     Defined by all property fences and white posts.

Penalty areas:       Penalty areas (water hazards) are marked with red lines. Bulkheads are in the penalty area, no free relief from bulkheads.

New Sod & Tire Ruts:      All newly planted sod and tire ruts are abnormal ground (Ground under Repair), free relief may be taken.

Preferred Lies:                  Lift, clean and place within 12” or a grip length.
